Hawai'i Michelle Wie shot a 1-over-par 72 today and was in a three-way tie for the lead going into the final round of the U.S. Women's Open at the Cherry Hills Village, Colo.

Karen Stupples (69) and 17-year-old amateur Morgan Pressel (70) also were at 214. A victory by Wie, 15-year-old Punahou student, or Pressel tomorrow would make them the youngest to ever capture a major championship.

Paula Creamer (72), Young Jo (70) and Birdie Kim (69) are tied at 215.

Wie tied for the lead at even par when she birdied the par-5 11th hole. She took the lead when Stupples, 31, bogeyed the par-4 18th to end the third round at 1-over.

But Wie bogeyed the par-4 16th to drop to 1-over. She finished with three birdies and four bogeys at the Cherry Hills Country Club.

Annika Sorenstam, looking for her third victory in a major this year, shot 2-over 73 and was at 6-over 219. Second-round leader Nicole Perrot shot a 78 and was at 218.

Se Ri Pak became the U.S. Women's Open's youngest champion at 20 in 1998. Catherine Lacoste is the only amateur to win the tournament in 1967.
