Former University of Hawai'i quarterback Tim Chang's chances of starting his NFL rookie season with the Arizona Cardinals improved on Friday when the team released second-year player Chris Lewis.
Chang, who was signed as a free agent in April, was expected to challenge Lewis to be the Cardinals' No. 4 quarterback.

The East Valley Tribune reported that Lewis' release on Friday all but assures Chang will have a spot on the team's practice squad this season.
Kurt Warner is expected to be the starter, with Josh McCown as his backup and John Navarre as No. 3. Lewis, who was signed last season as a rookie free agent out of Stanford, and Chang were the only other quarterbacks on the team's roster.
The 6-foot-1, 207-pound Chang is the NCAA record holder in pass completions (1,388), attempts (2,436) and yards (17,072).
The Cardinals report for camp July 31, and the first practice is Aug. 1 in Flagstaff, Ariz.
