Man reaches into glove-box, pulls out gun

Advertiser Staff

Police yesterday arrested two men, ages 20 and 26, on suspicion of multiple firearms offenses following a traffic stop in Waipahu yesterday evening.

Police said they ordered the car to pull over about 6:30 p.m. after they witnessed a traffic violation.

When the younger man, who was the passenger, opened the glove box to retrieve the car's registration and safety check, a handgun could be seen inside, police said.

The two men were then arrested on suspicion of failure to properly store a firearm and possession of an unregistered firearm. The older man was also arrested on suspicion of being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm.

Woman's nose broken in head-butt

A 27-year-old Wahiawa man was arrested yesterday after he allegedly head-butted a 21-year-old woman, breaking her nose.

Police said the two had been arguing about 6:55 a.m. when the head-butt occurred.

The suspect was arrested on suspicion of second- and third-degree assault.

Sharpening-stone attack investigated

A Punchbowl-area man was arrested yesterday morning after he got into an argument with another man in Iwilei and allegedly stuck him in the head with a sharpening stone.

Police said the two men were arguing and got into a fist-fight when others intervened to break it up.

One of the men involved in the argument went to another room in the building where it occurred, but the other man followed him, grabbed the sharpening stone and hit him in the head with it, police said.

Police were called and arrested the suspect about 6:55 a.m. on suspicion of first-degree assault. He was later released without charges pending further investigation.

The victim was cut on the head, police said.

Cell phone theft, sexual assault alleged

A 40-year-old man accused of stealing a cell phone from a woman acquaintance in Kailua on Monday may face felony sex offense charges as well.

The woman told police the man used physical force to take her phone at about 3:30 p.m. Monday.

While the woman was telling police about what happened on Monday, she said the man sexually assaulted her on Feb. 3 as well.

Police located the suspect yesterday and arrested him on suspicion of second-degree robbery and two instances each of first- and second-degree sexual assault.

Man accused of attacking estranged wife

A 33-year-old Wahiawa man was arrested in Kapolei yesterday morning following an incident involving his estranged wife.

Police said the husband went to his wife's place of work about 7:45 a.m. and demanded to talk to her as she was arriving in her car, but she refused.

The husband then opened the car door, reached in and began to choke the wife, 34, police said. The husband then tried to force the woman out of the driver's seat so he could get into the car, but she was able to keep him from getting in, police said.

They said the woman eventually fell out of the car and tried to run, but was caught by the suspect who tried to force her back into the car.

But the woman was able to keep from being shoved into the car. The estranged husband then took the woman's wallet and fled.

Yesterday, the woman's relatives spotted the suspect in downtown Honolulu and called police, who arrested him on suspicion of unlawful entry into a motor vehicle, abuse of a family or household member, second-degree terroristic threatening and violating a court-issued restraining order.

Charges were pending this morning against the suspect.
