Tonight's Must-See

Tonight on KHNL News 8

Feeling hungry but sick of the same restaurant? Join KHNL News 8's Lyle Galdeira and Russell Yamanoha for tasty food on "Cheap Eats." That's tonight on KHNL News 8 at 5 and 10.

"Beauty and the Geek," 7 p.m., WB. This likable show is down to three mismatched couples. Each pairs a beautiful woman with a guy who tends to be smart and obsessive; the guys vary greatly. Chuck, a medical student, stands out, even in a high-IQ place; he groans that Richard — always talking, always goofy — fulfills negative stereotypes of smart guys. Shawn, tall and quiet, seems pensive. Chuck's teammate, Caitlin, seems understandably at ease. Richard's teammate, Mindi, tolerates his verbal blitzes. The real surprise tonight comes when Shawn's teammate, Scarlet, goes over the top. Her long pout provides the latest twist, as the show trims to two couples for next week's finale.

Of Note

"48 HRS.," (1982, 2 p.m., AMC), "Superman" (1978, 5 p.m., A&E) and "The Breakfast Club" (1985, 8 p.m., ABC Family). Pause and admire this set of choices. Each film is popular and entertaining. Each — especially "48 HRS." — is well made. At moments like this, cable seems like a movie-lover's dream. Of course, it's also perplexing. Didn't the "A" in "A&E" stand for "Arts"? Didn't the "C" in "AMC" mean "classics"? Wasn't ABC Family once the Christian Broadcasting Network? Why do channels all end up being kind of the same?

"Psychic Detectives," 7 p.m., NBC. These two real-life stories visit opposite worlds. The first is a quiet Indiana town where three drugstore employees have been left for dead; the second is Los Angeles, where a model disappears on her first day of work. In both cases, police turned to psychics.

"Stacked," 7:30 p.m., Fox. Here's a rerun of the fun pilot film about a ditzy beauty (Pamela Anderson) wandering into a bookstore and looking for a job. With the folks from "Frasier" behind the lens, this is worth checking out.

"Law & Order," 8 and 9 p.m., NBC. In the first rerun, a rap star has been killed and his protege (Sean Nelson) is the prime suspect. In the second, Fontana links with temporary partner Falco (Michael Imperioli of "The Sopranos") in a complex case that starts with a slain porn star and leads up to the police hierarchy.

"Lost," 9 p.m., ABC. This rerun shows Jack's difficult past, indicating why he doesn't really want to take a leadership role.
