Human bones found in Nu'uanu

Advertiser Staff

Homicide investigators are awaiting word from the city Department of the Medical Examiner on whether human bones found off Akamu Place in Nu'uanu are ancient or were deposited there more recently.

A 30-year-old man turned the bones over to police after he discovered them about 3:45 p.m. yesterday while hiking through the area, police said.

Woman recovering after assault

A 24-year-old woman is recovering from numerous stab wounds after her boyfriend allegedly abducted her yesterday morning, held her captive for several hours before dropping her off at a construction site in 'Ewa Beach. Officers later discovered the man's body after he took his own life, police said.

Police said the boyfriend hid inside the woman's car and confronted her when she got in about 6:25 a.m.

Police said the woman's boyfriend forced her to remain in the front passenger seat while he drove around the Kaimuki area, slashing at her with a box cutter.

The boyfriend eventually headed for 'Ewa Beach to drop the girlfriend off at a construction site where his father was working. The father then took the injured woman to Saint Francis West Medical Center, where she was treated for numerous cuts to her hands and a deep stab wound to her left thigh.

Police were called to the city's 'Ewa Beach Park a short time later and found the boyfriend's body after an apparent suicide.

Girl reports sexual assault

Police yesterday arrested a 30-year-old Kalihi man in connection with the alleged sexual assault of a 17-year-old girl on March 16.

Police said the suspect is the girl's ex-boyfriend and that she invited him to her house on the day in question.

The sexual assault is alleged to have taken place while the former boyfriend was visiting the girl's home, police said.

Members of the Kalihi police district crime reduction unit found the man yesterday and arrested him for suspicion of second-degree sexual assault. He was released later without charges pending further investigation.
