University of Hawai'i guard Samson Satele has been named to the Outland Trophy watch list for the second consecutive year.
"It's an honor to be a candidate," Satele said. "If I get awarded with it, that would be a great honor."
Satele, a 6-foot-3, 289-pound junior, is one of 36 players on the 2005 watch list.
Tennessee senior defensive lineman Jesse Mahelona, a 2001 graduate of Kealakehe from Kailua, Kona, also is an Outland Trophy candidate.
Satele, a 2002 Kailua High School graduate, started all 12 regular-season games last season, 10 at left guard and two at center. He led the team with 38 knockdowns and was a second-team all-Western Athletic Conference selection.
The Outland Trophy winner is selected by the Football Writers Association of America's All-America Committee, and will be announced Dec. 8 on ESPN.
The UH offensive line is considered one of the bright spots on 2005 team. The unit returns four starters, and six players who have started at least two regular-season games last season.
"We've got a lot of experience on the team," Satele said. "We should be the best unit in the WAC."
The Outland Trophy one of college football's most prestigious awards has been given to the best interior offensive or defensive lineman since 1946.
