Puakea Golf Course's second anniversary celebration begins July 9, with a free demo day from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Nike and Wilson will have equipment available to try out.

The following day, July 10, Puakea invites junior golfers (ages 7 to 18) to a free clinic from 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. at the driving range. Juniors can also play free on weekdays in July and August when accompanied by a paying adult.

From July 9 to 15, Puakea is partnering with the Kaua'i Food Bank. For a $10 (minimum) donation, golfers can try to win hole-in-one prizes, including $10,000 and a cruise, at the par-3's. For every $1 donated, the Kaua'i Food Bank is able to distribute $16 worth of food.

For more information, call the pro shop at (808)-245-8756 on Kaua'i, call (866)-773-5554 toll-free, or visit puakeagolf.com.

Ka'anapali holding junior program

Ka'anapali, Maui, is again holding its Summer Junior Golf programs on the North Course. They are open to players between the ages of 7 and 17.

Camps cost $50 each. There are two in July (11 to 14 and 25 to 28), with the final camp Aug. 8 to 11. Instruction begins at 3 p.m. each day and ends at 5 p.m.

Head pro Scott Ashworth directs with the help of his staff. Golf fundamentals are covered, along with etiquette and rules.

Each junior who completes a camp is eligible to take a test to become a Ka'anapali Junior Member. That ID card is good for free green fees after 5 p.m. on the North Course through November, and free range balls until next June.

All juniors can play free in July and August, after 3 p.m., if accompanied by a paying adult.

For more information, call (808) 661-3691.
