Oahu median home price hits record $525,500

By Andrew Gomes

Competition for limited inventory of previously owned single-family homes available for sale on O'ahu sent prices up and purchases down last month, according to the Honolulu Board of Realtors.

The median price for a single-family home rose to a record $525,500, up 28 percent from $410,000 a year earlier, and 4 percent higher than $505,000 in January.

The median, a midpoint where half of all sales were for more and half for less, also reached a record for condominiums at $235,000. That was up 25 percent from $188,000 a year earlier and up 5 percent from $224,000 in January.

Single-family home sales volume dropped 9 percent to 266 last month, compared with 293 sales a year earlier. Condo sales were up 17 percent to 525, compared with 449 in the same period.
