Retired Adm. Thomas Fargo, former commander of U.S. Pacific forces, has accepted the chairmanships of Loea Corp. and Sago Systems, two technology companies that do research and development work for the federal government.
The two firms are subsidiaries of Trex Enterprises Corp., a San Diego-based company with offices on O'ahu, Maui and Kaua'i.
Fargo will be based at Trex's O'ahu office and oversee the direction of Loea Corp., which specializes in "high-bandwidth, free-space millimeter-wave radios."
Fargo, who relinquished his command Feb. 26, also sits on the board of directors of Hawaiian Electric Industries.
Hawai'i bus-tour company Polynesian Adventure Tours is spending nearly $9 million to expand its fleet with 31 new and used buses, president Jon Savitz said.
The company, which was bought by Norwegian Cruise Line last year, trimmed its fleet by about 25 vehicles after 9/11 but recently bought the additional 57-passenger buses because of an improved economic climate and the expansion of cruise-ship clients with NCL's new Pride of America this summer, Savitz said.
The expansion will boost Polynesian Adventure Tours' fleet to about 135 buses and other vehicles statewide.
Alexander & Baldwin Inc. announced yesterday that Paul Ito will join the company as a director effective April 1.
Ito will be responsible for directing internal audit activities, as well as developing and overseeing a risk assessment and management program for A&B and its subsidiaries.
He replaces John Duncan, who is leaving to work for another company.
Ito will report directly to Allen Doane, A&B's president and chief executive, with accountability to the company's Audit Committee.
Ito now works for Deloitte & Touche LLP in San Francisco, where he is a senior manager in the accounting consultation research group.
