UH diver, coaches honored

University of Hawai'i freshman diver Mats Wiktorsson was named Diver of the Year at last weekend's National Independent Conference Championships on the campus of Oakland University at Rochester, Mich.

Wiktorsson won the 3-meter springboard and platform, and placed second in the 1-meter springboard.

Also, UH coaches Mike Brown and Anita Rossing were selected co-coaches of the year.



BASKETBALL

UH-Hilo ranked No. 9

The University of Hawai'i-Hilo basketball team moved up four spots to No. 9 in the NABC/NCAA Division II Poll released yesterday.

The Vulcans (24-3) now await today's Division II Regional Poll in anticipation of Sunday's announcement for the host site for the Western Regional tournament.

Also, UHH senior guard Alex Cabagnot was named Pacific West Conference Player of the Week after averaging 16.5 points and 4.5 assists in two wins over Hawai'i Pacific.



SOFTBALL

BYUH sweeps pair

Brigham Young University-Hawai'i freshman Stephanie Pane'e drilled a double to center field with one out in the bottom of the seventh inning to score Chynna Wilcox from second base and give the Seasiders a 3-2 win in the nightcap and a softball doubleheader sweep over Notre Dame de Namur yesterday at La'ie.

The Seasiders (4-4) won the first game, 4-3, with a three-run rally in the sixth inning.

Notre Dame de Namur, an NAIA school, is 6-8.
