Second-ranked California and seventh-ranked Alabama join Hawai'i and three other softball teams for the Pepsi-Cola Malihini Kipa Aloha Tournament, today through Sunday at Rainbow Wahine Softball Stadium.

Hawai'i (6-6) is back from an 11-day road trip without all-Western Athletic Conference outfielder Tracie Uchima, who is interviewing at veterinary schools on the Mainland until tomorrow. Uchima, a three-time NFCA Academic All-American, hit .412 in the first 12 games. Today's game against Mount St. Mary's will end her streak of starts at 135 in a row.

Two other UH starters are hitting above .300 — Jennifer Hackett (.364) and Kate Robinson (.310).

Cal (11-1) has eight starters back from the team that lost to UCLA in the NCAA Championship game last year, for the second straight season. The Bears won their only NCAA title in 2002. Baldwin graduate Kaleo Eldredge led that team in hits and steals as a freshman, a year after helping Baldwin to the 2001 state championship.

Eldredge was a second-team All-American last year and has started every game but one in her career. She is batting .382.

Eldredge is one of four Cal All-Americans, along with Vicky Galindo, who is hitting .474, Kristina Thorson and Chelsea Spencer. The Bears lost their first game last week, to then-No. 16 Texas A&M.

Alabama (19-2) is in the midst of a 16-game road trip. It is led by All-America catcher/outfielder Ashley Courtney.

Portland State sophomore Kimi Daniel, a Sacred Hearts graduate, was named Pacific Coast Softball Conference Player of the Week Feb. 14 after hitting .333, with her first collegiate home run.

Delaware State comes to Hawai'i with a 6-4 record. Mount St. Mary's, from Emmitsburg, Md., is opening its season here.
