Kane'ohe school closed after cesspool overflows

Advertiser Staff

Kahalu'u Elementary School was forced to close about 9 a.m. today when one of the cesspools on campus overflowed.

Department of Education spokeswoman Sandra Goya said parents have been notified and are picking up their children. Students who are not picked up will be supervised and fed on campus, she said.

The closure is a health and safety precaution, she said, and state crews are at the school to make repairs.

Located at 47-280 Waihee Road in Kane'ohe, the school is expected to reopen Monday.
