You pay more, can see more at the Doris Duke Theatre

Advertiser Staff

"More" is the password at the Doris Duke Theatre at the Honolulu Academy of Arts. That means a bit more out of your wallet, more film screenings and more opportunities for makers of short films.

Ticket prices have been raised by $2 since Tuesday, to $7 general and $5 for museum members. A $6 category has been added for military, students and those 62 and older.

The new schedule, which also began Tuesday, includes 16 screenings a week — at 1 p.m. Tuesdays through Sundays, 4 p.m. Fridays through Sundays and 7:30 p.m. daily.

Locally made short films have been screened along with the main features at the Doris Duke since January.

Konrad Ng, the museum's arts film and video curator, has been working with Chris Lee of the University of Hawai'i's Academy for Creative Media to show student films, but other interested filmmakers in the community can contact Ng at film@honoluluacademy.org, too.

An acclaimed Japanese film, "Nobody Knows," is now being screened. Also, "The Sea Inside," winner of the Oscar for best foreign film, begins screening Wednesday.
