We know how good it feels to make a difference, and now we have the numbers to back it up. A national Thrivent Financial for Lutherans survey found out this about American volunteerism:

57% of us said we had volunteered with a nonprofit or charitable cause in 2004, up nine percentage points from 2003.

Why do we volunteer?

75% said acting on moral values is an absolutely or very important factor.
47% do it to gain new experiences.
42% do it because they were helped by a volunteer in the past.
39% do it to meet other people



Clang, clang, clang goes the arts trolley

Waikiki trolley service for First Friday begins today.

Honolulu's First Friday Gallery Walk monthly arts event should attract an even larger crowd tonight with the launch of free trolley service from Waikiki.

The First Friday trolley will stop at the ABC Store near Benihana on Ala Moana at 4:30, 6 and 7:30 p.m.; Outrigger Islander on Lewers Street at 4:40, 6:10 and 7:40 p.m.; Duke's statue at 4:45, 6:15 and 7:45 p.m.; and the Aston Waikiki Beach Hotel at 4:50, 6:20 and 7:50 p.m. The trolley drops folks off at Indigo Eurasian Cuisine and the First Hawaiian Bank building's South King Street side.
