Col. Claude H. Davis, left, and Maj. Gen. W. Montague Winfield, right, deputy commander and commander of the Joint POW/MIA Account-ing Command, saluted the coffin of an unknown World War II service- man yesterday as it was draped with a flag at the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific.
The remains were exhumed for forensic study at the command's laboratory.
The remains, circumstantially associated with a missing pilot lost in the Philippines, will undergo DNA testing and anthropological study in an effort to identify them.
