UH-Hilo hosts No. 8 Florida St. in baseball

The University of Hawai'i-Hilo hosts eighth-ranked Florida State in a four-day baseball series starting today.

The series starts with a 6 p.m. game at Wong Stadium in Hilo, then moves to Simmons' Field in Kailua, Kona for a 1 p.m. game tomorrow and an 11 a.m. doubleheader on Sunday. The final game is Monday at Wong Stadium starting at 3 p.m.

The first 200 people to tonight's game at Wong Stadium will receive a complimentary 5-ounce bag of Big Island Candies cookies. One of the bags will include a $100 gift certificate to Big Island Candies.

Additional Big Island Candies products will be distributed during lucky number drawings.



BASKETBALL

Vulcans reap benefits of 3-point shooting

The University of Hawai'i-Hilo basketball team benefited from its 3-point shooting not only on the scoreboard but also in scholarship funding.

The Vulcans made 105 3-pointers at home to generate $5,250 through the KTA Super Store's 3-Points For Vulcan Scholarships Program.

For each 3-pointer made at a home game, $50 was awarded to the scholarship program through the funding of ConAgra Foods, Crossmark Rainbow Hawai'i, Pepsi Bottling, Hawaiian Sun, Love's Bakeries, Kraft Foods, General Mills and Frito Lay.
