Titans' Chow to speak at Punahou

Newly hired Tennessee Titans offensive coordinator Norm Chow will be the featured guest speaker at a Punahou School baseball program fund-raiser on March 20.

The event starts at 5 p.m. at the school president's home on the school's campus.

Cost is $75 with $25 tax deductible per person. A table of 10 cost $750 with $250 tax deductible.

Chow, one of the most successful offensive coordinators in college football while at USC, North Carolina State and Brigham Young, is a 1964 Punahou School graduate. He played football, basketball and baseball for the Buffanblu before continuing his football career at Utah, where he was a two-year starter at guard. He played one season with the Saskatchewan Roughriders of the Canadian Football League. He was head football coach at Waialua from 1970 to 1972 before moving on to the collegiate ranks, first at BYU, then at North Carolina State before landing at USC.

SOFTBALL

Vulcans sweep two from BYU-Hawai'i

Leo Sing Chow pitched a three-hitter and Sarah Steele followed with a five-hitter to lead Hawai'i-Hilo to shutouts over Brigham Young-Hawai'i yesterday at BYUH field in La'ie.

The Vulcans won 2-0 and 9-0 in the Pacific West Conference doubleheader. UHH is 10-2 overall, 3-1 in the PacWest. BYUH is 4-6, 0-2.

Sing Chow struck out three and walked one in the first game. Steele struck out one and walked none in the second game.

Laura Kimborowicz went 3 for 3, including three RBIs and two runs scored and Lisa Jackson also went 3 for 3 with two RBIs and scored two runs and for the Vulcans in the second game.



BOXING

WBO champ Bautista to fight at Blaisdell

World Boxing Organization Asia-Pacific champion Rey Bautista will fight Aree Phosuwangym, Thailand's former amateur national champion, on March 11 at the Blaisdell Arena.

There will also be preliminary local bouts between Hawai'i and California boxers, which begin at 7:30 p.m.

The first 1,000 people at the gate have a chance to win a pair of boxing gloves.

TENNIS

Wheelchair program begins at Ala Moana

The U.S. Tennis Association/Hawai'i Pacific Section's free Wheelchair Tennis Program has resumed on Court 1 at Ala Moana Park. The program runs from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday nights.

Racquets and balls are provided. All levels are welcome.
