Study music, voice at Big Island arts festival
Advertiser Staff
A Hawai'i Performing Arts Festival, set for June 20 through July 7 on the Big Island, will assemble music students and professionals in an intensive program at the Hawai'i Preparatory Academy in Kamuela.
The instrumental program will enable students to get individual lessons and participate in orchestral and chamber music. Music to be explored includes Rossini's Overture to "La Gazza Ladra" and Beethoven's Fifth Symphony.
The vocal program will encompass private study and the opportunity to perform in opera and master classes, culminating in performance of opera scenes and a cabaret evening.
Among the special events will be a July 4 American Gala, where faculty and students will perform under the direction of Jason Gamer.
Ricky Ian Gordon, whose award-winning compositions have been performed worldwide, is among the guest composers on the agenda.
