NOLA MIYASAKI, the former executive director and CEO of the state's High Technology Development Corp., has been named corporate vice president of Tissue Genesis Inc. (TGI). Besides corporate governance and investor relations, Miyasaki will handle the company's growing intellectual property portfolio. EUGENE BOLAND has joined the company as senior scientist in vascular tissue engineering. He was previously principal investigator and lead technical scientist for various tissue engineering, biomaterials and cell physiology projects at startup biotech companies on the Mainland. Tissue Genesis Inc. is working to develop tissue replacement products to aid in trauma injuries, cancer and cardiovascular and metabolic diseases.
LISA KOBS has been named manager of Auntie Pasto's restaurant at South Beretania and Pensacola streets. JENNIFER ADKINS has been named manager at Dixie Grill on Ward Avenue. Both were promoted from assistant general managers.
I HAROLD "HAL" KANOHOALII LEWIS, financial representative for the Operating Engineers, Local Union No. 3, has retired for the second time. Lewis was Local 3's financial secretary from 1973 until his first retirement in 1982. In 1998, Local 3 asked him to return as district representative for Hawai'i. He took over as financial representative in 2001, serving again through the end of 2004. RUSS BURNS, former union treasurer, is taking Lewis' place as local financial secretary. Carl Goff, formerly executive director of contracts, will replace Burns as treasurer. President BOB MILLER is the new officer-in-charge of the Hawai'i district, and ALLAN PARKER will serve as the union's district representative in Hawai'i.
MICHAEL NELSON has been named executive vice president and chief operating officer of the Ko Olina Resort. As well as overseeing all aspects of operations for the 642-acre property, he will be pivotal in maintaining relationships with the development's Ko Olina Community Association and Ko Olina Resort Association. Previously, as president of Nelson & Co./Ocean Sports Productions, Nelson coordinated various state and federal projects, including the Hawai'i Fishermen's Festivals and the annual World Billfish Challenger international competition on O'ahu and the Big Island.
MARK WILLES has been named chairman of the board of directors of the Polynesian Cultural Center. He succeeds nine-year chairman TED JACOBSEN, who will become president of the England Manchester Mission. Willes, 63, has had a varied career, which has included serving as an assistant professor of finance; president of the Federal Reserve Bank of Minneapolis; president and COO for General Mills Inc.; chairman, president and chief executive officer of Times Mirror Corp., publisher of the Los Angeles Times and Baltimore Sun; and, from 2001 to 2004, president of the Hawai'i Honolulu Mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
DIRCK NOORDHOFF has been promoted to general merchandise manager for Hilo Hattie. His oversight will include the entire buying office, and the Production, Planning and Design departments. Hawaiian souvenir and fashion retailer Hilo Hattie operates stores on all major Hawaiian islands, as well as shops in Orange, Calif.; Las Vegas; and Orlando, Fla. A San Diego, outlet is scheduled to open next month.
