Illustrations by Hilo artist John D. Dawson once again are being featured on U.S. postage stamps. Dawson's latest stamp sheet features animals found in the deciduous forest of the U.S. Northeast.

A first-day-of-issue dedication ceremony was held Thursday at Madison Square Garden in New York City. The stamp sheet, titled "Nature of America: Northeast Deciduous Forest," was made available nationwide on Friday. Orders also are being accepted online at www.usps.com/shop.

The souvenir stamp sheet includes 10 individual stamps depicting an eastern red bat, black bear, eastern chipmunk, wild turkey and other creatures.

Dawson, who moved to Hawai'i in 1989, illustrated all seven stamp sheets in the "Nature of America" series, including one released last year on the "Pacific Coral Reef." He also has done artwork for National Geographic, the National Audubon Society, Field & Stream and the American Museum of Natural History.
