Three months after leading Kamehameha Schools Kapalama campus to a state football championship, coach and assistant athletic director Kanani Souza is leaving for a season to serve as a graduate assistant at Oregon State, the school announced today.

Souza, 59, is expected to work with tight ends at OSU.

Kamehameha Schools said Souza will "return to his duties in Jan. 2006." No replacement has been named.

Souza has a 79-25-2 record for the Warriors, including the 10-1-1 mark and the state title in 2004.

Souza was an assistant coach at the University of Hawai'i 1984-'95 before joining Kamehameha Schools. Prior to that he coached at Northern Colorado and Colorado.
