UH student pulled from campus pool

Advertiser Staff

A University of Hawai'i student was taken to Straub Clinic and Hospital this morning after nearly drowning during a kinesiology class at the Duke Kahanamoku Pool on the university's lower campus.

Two women students noticed the body of a third woman lying on the pool's floor about 9:15 a.m. and brought her to the surface. Other students in the class of approximately 20 male and female students and the class instructor began cardiopulmonary resuscitation on the stricken student until emergency fire and paramedic crews arrived and took over.

The woman appeared to be in her early 20s, according to campus security.

The student's classmates described her as a local resident but did not know what area on O'ahu she is from.
