Pedestrian remains in critical condition

Advertiser Staff

A 73-year-old Honolulu woman was critically injured last night when she was hit by a pickup truck while crossing a street near the Kamehameha Shopping Center in Kalihi.

Police traffic investigators said a 25-year-old Honolulu man was stopped for a red light in a 2004 Chevrolet pickup at a left-turn lane on Hala Drive at the intersection of Makuahine Street.

The truck turned left onto Makuahine when the light turned green and struck the woman who was attempting to cross Makuahine from west to east in a marked crosswalk when the collision occurred.

The pedestrian was taken to The Queen's Medical Center in critical condition.

Police said speeding and the use of alcohol do not appear to be factors in the case.
