Primer for a neophyte runner

Advertiser Staff

A sensible running program can work.

Running can be done anytime, anywhere, and the only expense is a good pair of running shoes.

Now there's a practical primer for the beginner, "Runner's World Complete Book of Beginning Running" by Amby Burfoot, executive editor of Runner's World magazine.

The book offers two training plans, one for eight weeks, the other 24 weeks, with daily guidelines on nutrition, weight loss and the eight habits of highly successful runners. It also has a section for women.

'Pacifier' No. 1 with $30.2 million

John Travolta was cool, but Vin Diesel proved cooler this weekend as his comedy "The Pacifier" surprised analysts by taking the top spot at theaters.

"The Pacifier" pulled in $30.2 million, according to studio estimates from box office tracker Nielsen EDI. Travolta's "Be Cool" premiered with $23.5 million.

"Hitch" remains strong at third place and $12.5 million in its fourth weekend. "Diary of a Mad Black Woman" was No. 4 with $12 million. "Million Dollar Baby" made $8.5 million for fifth place.
