Washington State freshman point guard Derrick Low, the three-time Advertiser State Player of the Year for Iolani, was named an honorable mention Pac-10 All-Freshman selection, the conference announced yesterday.

After recovering from an injury, Low was second on the team in assists (62) and minutes per game (31.9), was third on the team with 7.1 points per game, and averaged 1.1 rebounds a game.

The Cougars open the Pac-10 Tournament against Stanford Thursday, and Low, who recovered from a broken bone in his right foot injured during practice in October, is 6 for 11 from the floor and 7 for 7 at the line against the Cardinal.

In January, Low scored 13 points (hitting 4 of 4 of his 3-point attempts) in a 70-63 win over then-No. 11 Arizona in a Pac-10 contest.
