Coogan's pitching lifts UH past Virginia, 1-0

Melissa Coogan pitched a four-hitter and Denise Dahlberg doubled home a run in the fourth inning as Hawai'i defeated Virginia, 1-0, in the first game of a scheduled doubleheader yesterday at Rainbow Wahine Softball Stadium.
The second game was stopped in the bottom of the third because of rain with UH ahead 7-1.
Coogan (6-4) struck out eight and walked one for her 27th career shutout as Hawai'i improved to 11-9.
Coty Tolar pitched a five-hitter with four strikeouts for Virginia (5-11).
Tara Harbert led off the Hawai'i fourth with a single up the middle and advanced to second on a passed ball. Dahlberg then ripped a double to the gap in right-center to make it 1-0.
Harbert batted 2 for 3.
Coaches workshop set
Vic Braden, Phil Dent and Geoff Norton will lead a coaches workshop at Ala Moana's McCoy Pavilion, April 16 and 17, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
The workshop includes on-court clinics, handbooks and lunch. It is open to coaches, players and tennis enthusiasts.
Registration before April 1 is $100 for both days, or $60 for Saturday or Sunday. After April 1, fees go up to $115 and $65.
Braden is a sports science researcher, licensed psychologist and founder of Vic Braden Tennis Colleges. Dent won 34 doubles titles, including the Australian Open. Norton is Director of Development for the Professional Tennis Registry and a USTA trainer.
Odelius tied for 7th
Sophomore Sara Odelius is in a three-way tie for seventh after shooting 73-72 yesterday in the San Jose State Spartan Invitational at Salina, Calif.
California's Sofie Anderson leads with a 135.
UCLA leads the 15-team field with a 579 total, while Rainbow Wahine sit in 12th at 611.
The final round concludes today on the par-71 Corral de Tierra Country Club's golf course.
