Florida St. trounces HPU, 9-1

Mark Sauls teamed with three relievers on a five-hitter as No. 3 Florida State beat Hawai'i Pacific, 9-1, last night at Aloha Stadium.

Sauls worked 5 2/3 scoreless innings to help the Seminoles improve to 21-1.

Shane Robinson and Gibbs Chapman each had two hits and Ruairi O'Connor homered for Florida State.

Brandon Sato had two hits and Grandon Costa drove in the lone run for the Sea Warriors (8-6), who used seven pitchers and trailed just 1-0 after six innings.

The Seminoles open a three-game series against the University of Hawai'i tonight at Les Murakami Stadium, starting at 6:35.



SOFTBALL

Notre Dame beats UH

Heather Booth pitched a two-hitter as Notre Dame defeated Hawai'i, 9-1, last night on the opening day of the Hawai'i Spring Fling Tournament at Rainbow Wahine Softball Stadium.

Booth struck out three and walked two in a game shortened to five innings.

Carrie Wisen batted 3 for 3 and had two RBIs for the Irish (9-7).

Louise Harriden drove in the lone run for the Rainbow Wahine (11-10).

In other first-round games, Campbell defeated Virginia, 4-2, and Notre Dame beat Campbell, 6-1.



GOLF

UH finishes 11th

University of Hawai'i sophomore Dale Gammie shot a final-round 1-under 70 yesterday to finish in a tie for ninth at the San Jose State Spartan Invitational in Salinas, Calif.

Gammie, of Pukalani, Maui, shot a three-round total of 5-over 218 to lead the Rainbow Wahine to an 11th-place finish in the 15-school field with a 63-over 915 total.

Defending national champion UCLA won with 16-over 868, edging Washington by two strokes.

Cal's Sofie Andersson took medalist honors after shooting 71—206 to win by five strokes.
