No Ka Oi youth squad wins cheerleading title

Advertiser Staff

A team from No Ka Oi All-Star Cheerleading was indeed No. 1 during the Aloha International Spirit Championship.

The organization's youth squad (6th grade and under) was the only Hawai'i team to win during the event held last month at the Waikiki Shell.

The squad of 17 girls from around O'ahu will perform its winning routine during Sunday's Hawai'i High School Athletic Association state championship at Stan Sheriff Center.

The No Ka Oi team, coached by Christianne Namocot and Rebecca Pamaylaon, defeated four other Mainland squads, executing tumbling, motion, dance and stunt skills.

About 60 teams from Hawai'i, the Mainland, Canada and Japan competed in five different skill levels (5 being the best), age groups and squad size. No Ka Oi competed in level 4.
