Michael Nakasone, the Royal Hawaiian Band's new director, displayed his form during yesterdday's concert on the lawn at 'Iolani Palace. In January, Nakasone was chosen to be bandmaster by Mayor Mufi Hannemann in a controversial move to replace Aaron David Mahi, who had held the position for 24 years. Although the band played selections yesterday that Nakasone said had only recently been rehearsed, the former Pearl City High School band director praised his musicians for their performance.
