Advertiser Staff

Police yesterday were investigating a complaint filed by an 85-year-old Kaimuki woman who said a stranger broke into her home and sexually assaulted her between 3-4 a.m. Saturday.

The woman told police she was asleep in a bedroom when a man entered, held her at knife-point and sexually assaulted her.

The woman told police her assailant appeared to be in his 20s or 30s. Police yesterday had no suspects in the case, which was classified as a first-degree sexual assault, kidnapping and first-degree burglary.

Man breaks into van, falls asleep, gets arrested, police say

A man suspected of breaking into a van on Pepe'ekeo Street in Hawai'i Kai sometime Saturday night made the mistake of falling asleep in the van, police said.

Police said the van's owner looked inside at about 9 a.m. yesterday and saw an unknown man sleeping in the front seat of the 2000 Mazda MPV. The owner noticed that bags that were in the van had been searched because items were strewn throughout the van. The owner woke the stranger and called police.

The stranger was arrested after the van owner told police he had not given the man permission to enter the van or to go through its contents.

The man found in the van was arrested on suspicion of unlawful entry into a motor vehicle.

Counterfeit bills seized

A man and woman from Makiki were arrested Saturday evening after the woman allegedly used four counterfeit $10 bills to pay a fast-food delivery driver.

The driver thought the bills looked suspicious and called police who went to the home and arrested 30-year-old woman on suspicion of first-degree forgery.

Police said they arrested a 43-year-old man at the home after the woman reportedly told officers that he had manufactured the bogus bills. The man was arrested on suspicion of criminal possession of a forgery device.

Police investigate assault report

Police yesterday were looking for a man in his 20s who met a 32-year-old woman at a Kane'ohe bar Friday night and sexually assaulted her the following morning.

The woman told police she and a male friend went to the bar Friday, met a stranger there, drank until the bar closed and blacked out along with her friend.

Police said neither the woman nor her friend could remember how they left the bar but the woman's male friend said he remembers the woman being sexually assaulted by the stranger they met at the bar, although he could not recall where the woman was assaulted.

The woman was taken to the Sex Abuse Treatment Center while police yesterday were trying to determine where the assault took place.
