HPU baseball sweeps twin bill from Lander

Bryan Daguio singled in Alika Kuraoka from third with one out in the bottom of the 10th inning as Hawai'i Pacific beat Lander (S.C.), 9-8, in the second game of a doubleheader last night at Aloha Stadium.

The Sea Warriors (12-8) scored four runs in the bottom of the ninth to tie the game at 8.

In the first game, Grandon Costa and Jay Baptista each drove in two runs as HPU beat Lander, 10-7.



SOFTBALL

Sea Warriors sweep

Kellie Nishikida batted a combined 5 for 5 with six RBIs and Nicole Kalakau belted two home runs as Hawai'i Pacific easily swept Wisconsin-Stout yesterday at HPU Windward Field.

In the first game, Nishikida batted 2 for 2 with two doubles, two runs scored and two RBIs, and Brandi Peiler pitched a four-hitter as HPU won, 11-1.

In the second game, Nishikida went 3 for 3 with three runs scored and four RBIs and Dayna Berry pitched four scoreless innings in a 12-2 victory.

Kalakau homered in each game and drove in five runs.



BENCH PRESS

Event at Aloha Tower

The third annual Hawai'i High School Bench Press Your Bodyweight Championships will be held March 18 at 6 p.m. at Aloha Tower Marketplace.

Participants must weigh-in on March 17 at 24-Hour Fitness Windward City Shopping Center from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.

SUPER BRAWL

Vitale to fight April 9

Hawai'i's Falaniko Vitale will fight Japan's Masanori Suda for the 185-pound Super Brawl title April 9 at Stan Sheriff Center.

The event is called "Super Brawl XXXIX: Destiny."

Vitale is a Waipahu High and University of Hawai'i alum.
