ISLAND LIFE SHORTS
Superfly redux on new release

Advertiser Staff and News Services

With "Now That's What I Call Music 18" (or is it 28, by now?) fresh in record stores yesterday, we'll forgive your missing a sweet new disc of remixed classics by Superfly himself. Rhino Records' "Mayfield: Remixed" collects nine of Chicago soul legend Curtis Mayfield's best tracks, reverently reworked by a cadre of solid remixers and guest stars, including Beastie Boys DJ Mixmaster Mike, Grandmaster Flash, and Louie Vega.

Prom trend: Tape?

Calling all creative prom-goers who want to (maybe) win some big bucks. The Duck brand duct tape Stuck at Prom contest is offering a $5,000 college scholarship to a couple creating the most exciting prom outfits.

Previous winners have included a Cinderella and Prince Charming and an artful starburst ensemble. Entries must be received by June 10. Go to www.ducktapeclub.com for rules and a registration form.

FINAL WORD

The Rev. Al Sharpton | talking about banning rappers involved with violence:

"The whole body politic of America addressed Janet Jackson's breast, and it didn't hurt anybody. Here you have actual bloodshed, and people are not even responding at federally regulated radio stations. ... black kids are expected to shoot each other, and nobody cares? Well, I care, and I think somebody should do something about it."
