QUICK BITES
Kodama to bring out the favorites

Advertiser Staff

• D.K. Kodama will be back where it all began at 6 p.m. March 20 to celebrate the 9th anniversary of the flagship Sansei Seafood Restaurant & Sushi Bar in Kapalua, Maui. He and Kapalua chef Ivan Pahk have a number of surprises planned, and the offerings at the various stations — sushi, action and saute — will focus on longtime favorites: mango crab hand roll, calamari salad, duck breast with foie gras demi-glace. Reservations: (808) 669-6286.

• The spring menu is in place at Chef Mavro in Honolulu. Chef George Mavrothalassitis continues to explore his roots, and then deconsruct them, with dishes that are based on classics, including Kahuku Shrimp Provencale Salad, Roasted Kurobuta Pork "Blanquette" (pork tenderloin in a sauce accented with coconut) and Calamansi Pudding (an intriguing piquant baked dessert with orange foam and Volcano honey glaze). All three can be enjoyed in a set-price menu of $78 with paired wines, $56 without. Reservations: 944-4714.

Sample wines, linger amid the lingerie at Formaggio

In keeping with the interest in pinot noir sparked by the movie "Sideways," and the somewhat feminine nature of this wine, Bouvier Productions is hosting a pinot tasting and lingerie fashion show from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at Formaggio Wine Bar (rear from Market City Shopping Center, next to Fujioka's Wines).

The lingerie is from the spring collections of designers represented by LuLu Lackey Inc. Twenty pinots will be tasted, including Acacia, Argyle, Au Bon Climat, Brewer Clifton, Chalone, Chehalem, The Crossings, Domaine Drouhin, Edna Valley, Erath, Esser, Melville, Samantha Star and Whitcraft. Tickets: $40. Reservations: 739-9463. Seating is limited.
