Winthrop scored an unearned run in the top of the 15th inning to beat the University of Hawai'i, 4-3, last night in a non-conference baseball game.

Hawai'i's Joe Spiers slides safely into home as Winthrop catcher Alan Ribbons awaits the throw.

LATE GAME

Last night's University of Hawai'i baseball game against Winthrop finished too late for complete coverage. More on the game will be included in tomorrow's Advertiser.

The loss snapped UH's four-game win streak in the longest game of the season in terms of innings and time (4 hours, 53 minutes).

A Les Murakami Stadium crowd of 942 watched the 'Bows (12-9) fall to 2-3 in extra-inning games this season. The Eagles are 16-5.

In the top of the 15th, Heath Rollins led off with a walk, stole second and, after Daniel Carte struck out, Rollins took third when Nick Bly grounded out to second.

Kevin Roberson then hit a grounder to shortstop Joe Spiers, who bobbled the ball and then threw wide of first. Rollins scored on the error to give the Eagles a 4-3 lead.

Guy McDowell (2-1) gave up an unearned run in three innings of relief.

Jon Wilson (3-0) threw 1 1/3 scoreless innings for the Eagles.
