Burn a mix CD of U2, Van Morrison, The Pogues, The Chieftains and (if you must) House of Pain, throw on something green and haul your corned-beef-musubi curious self down to three St. Patrick's Day events worth checking out.

Kahala Mall hosts the world's first c.b. musubi-eating contest, 10 a.m. at center stage. Sated, head down to Waikiki as the Friendly Sons of St. Patrick of Hawaii's green day parade winds from Atkinson Drive, Ala Moana and Kalakaua Avenue toward Kapi'olani Park at noon. End your day with live music, Irish pipers and lots of food and Guinness at Murphy's Bar & Grill's 18th annual Downtown block party, from 6 to 11 p.m.

White eye shadow can help brighten your look

White eye shadow is a must-have for your makeup bag. When applied to the inner eyelid, it opens up the eye. When applied just below the brow bone, it lifts the eye. For deep-set eyes, it can be lightly applied all around the eye (under as well as over) to lighten the look.

It can also help save face when you've been too heavy handed with eye shadow; simply use a fluffy brush and dust all over the eyelid to soften a too-harsh look.

FINAL WORD

"The Golden Girls" star Rue McClanahan on "Desperate Housewives," the hit TV show by former "Golden Girls" writer Marc Cherry.

"Oh, it's great. (Pause) I don't really watch television, to tell you the truth. I'll watch part of something or all of something. Marc is funnier than that show is."
