It was twice as nice at Po'ipu

DONALD R. YOUNG

Feb. 16 and Feb. 24
Po'ipu Bay Golf Course
Holes No. 3 (163 yards, 3-wood) and 11 (143, 9-wood)

Donald Young escapes from the East Coast every winter to spend a few months on Kaua'i.

The Garden Island became a lot more inviting when he recently sank two holes-in-one in eight days at Po'ipu Bay Golf Course.

Young, a 70-year-old retired pharmacist from St. Michaels, Md., plays two or three times a week while spending the winter months in Koloa.

On Feb. 16, he aced Po'ipu's No. 3.

"I couldn't believe it," Young said. "The group behind us began clapping. We didn't know what they were clapping about."

That is until Young's foursome reached the green.

"We probably looked everywhere but in the hole," Young said.

Eight days later, Young, playing in another foursome, struck again — this time on No. 11.

Once again he didn't see it go into the hole, but one of his playing partners looked into the cup and said, "Don, your ball's here."

"They tell me I did a dance on the green," Young said. "They said they didn't know I had that kind of dance moves in me."

Young said to celebrate he bought dinner and drinks for his friends.

"It was a wonderful time — expensive, but worth it," Young said. "I would do it all over again."

With his luck, there might be a chance of that.
