Advertiser Staff and News Services

Honolulu's Michelle Wie rebounded with a second-round 5-under-par 67 — including an eagle on the par-5 13th hole — to move into a tie for ninth at the LPGA's Safeway International today at Superstition Mountain, Ariz.

Mexico's Lorena Ochoa also shot a 67 for a 12-under 132 to take a two-shot lead over Soo-Yun Kang (66) and a three-shot lead over Annika Sorenstam (69). Wie was at 4-under 140.

Wie, who opened with a 73 yesterday, started today with a bogey on No. 1 but drew even with birdies on Nos. 2 and 7. She sank a birdie on No. 8 to make the turn at 1 under.

After a bogey at No. 10, and her eagle at No. 13, she added birdies at Nos. 15 and 18.

At the par-5 18, she made a three-shot turnaround from yesterday's double-bogey.

Others tied with Wie at 4-under were Paula Creamer, Liselotte Neumann, Laura Davies and Laura Diaz.

The tournament continues tomorrow with the final round scheduled for Sunday.
