Police Beat: Water gun high jinks leads to arrests

Advertiser Staff

Two Kalakaua Middle School students were arrested yesterday in connection with a March 9 incident in which the two boys allegedly pointed what turned out to be a water gun at two different girls, according to police and school officials.

The school principal said the incident occurred at a shopping center, so the students will not be suspended, but will receive counseling.

Because the girls thought it was a firearm, however, the two were arrested yesterday at the school on suspicion of first-degree terroristic threatening. They were later released without charges pending further investigation.

Car ends up on neighbor's carport

Police said an elderly Makiki woman was shaken but otherwise unharmed after her car wound up on the roof of her neighbor's carport.

Police said the woman was backing down her driveway at 2014 Ualakaa Street when she apparently hit the gas pedal instead of the brake.

The car shot back, hopped over a short retaining wall and landed on the roof of the carport located on the adjoining property.

Police called a tow truck in hopes the car could be removed without causing the carport to collapse.

Sting leads to five arrests

Police arrested five men last night near Aala Street and Aala Place last night for allegedly offering to pay undercover police officers for sex.

The five men ranged in age from 37 to 55 and were arrested between 7:30 p.m. and 10:15 p.m. on suspicion of prostitution.

Bail was set at $,1000 for each of the men.

Escapee arrested, police say

A 30-year-old man was arrested yesterday at Sunset Beach Park on O'ahu's North Shore on suspicion of second-degree escape.

Police said the man escaped from a Waipahu hospital on Dec. 13 after he was taken to the hospital for treatment following his arrest on other charges.

Drill attack reported

A 41-year-old Kalihi man was arrested yesterday after he allegedly attacked a 40-year-old neighbor with an electric drill. Police said the two men had been arguing when the older man picked up the drill and hit the younger man in the face and head.

Police said the victim was cut on the scalp and above his left eye.

Police were sent to the scene and arrested the older man on suspicion of second-degree assault.

Teens accused of moped theft

Two 14-year-old Honolulu boys were arrested last night after police reported finding them pushing a stolen moped down a street trying to break off the steering lock.

A man called police about 8:50 p.m. to say he could see a group of boys trying to steal the moped from a bike rack in the down town area. The man called a second time to say the boys had gotten the moped free of the rack and were pushing down the street.

Police patrol units arrived and arrested two boys on suspicion of felony theft. They were later released without charges pending further investigation.
