Hawai'i downs Winthrop in tourney

Melissa Coogan pitched a five-hitter and Tracie Uchima batted 3 for 3 with a double and scored a run as Hawai'i beat Winthrop, 3-2, in the Bank of Hawai'i Invitational last night at Rainbow Wahine Softball Stadium.

Coogan walked one, struck out four and improved to 9-6 on the season.

The Rainbows scored the go-ahead run in the top of the sixth inning.

The Eagles (17-14) committed two errors and allowed two unearned runs.

The Rainbows (15-13) will play Eastern Illinois tonight at 7.
