Under-19 seven-a-side rugby event in Kahuku

Rugby teams from nine Hawai'i high schools and one from Westchester High in Pennsylvania will participate in the United States' first Under-19 seven-a-side Rugby Tournament.

The event will be held Wednesday and Thursday at Kahuku District Park.

Each participating team will play four matches Wednesday, and as many as three matches on the final day leading up to the championship final.

Participating Hawai'i teams will be Farrington, Halau Kumana (Hawaiian charter school), Kahuku, Kailua, Kaimuki, Kamehameha, McKinley, Punahou, and Waipahu.

Rugby is the second-mos-t watched sport on TV worldwide, behind soccer, and is played in more than 90 countries, including the United States.



FISHING

Trolling for marlin, big bucks in state tourney

The second annual Black & Blue Striped (fishing) Shootout Hawai'i State Championship will be held March 26.

Fishing will begin off four harbors — Honokohau on the Big Island, Nawiliwili on Kaua'i, Lahaina on Maui, and Ala Wai — from 6 a.m. to 4 p.m. Teams must return to their starting harbor for weigh-in by 7 p.m.

Only black, blue and striped marlin with a minimum weight of 100 pounds will be judged. Last year, 17 boats from Maui and 29 from Kona competed.

Entry fee is $1,000 with $500 to $1,000 going toward the biggest fish of the harbor and other awards. For information, contact Jeff Kahl, the tournament director, at (808) 283-2628.

Spring training camp for Aikido students

All Aikido students are invited to the 24th spring training camp at Ho'omaluhia Botanical Gardens for a weekend of camping and outdoor training.

Instruction, from March 25 to 27, will be provided by senior members of The Aikido Ohana and other participating island dojo.

INLINE HOCKEY

Mainland teams in Pacific Cup tourney

The second Pacific Cup Spring Tournament, which features Mainland teams and some of the top inline hockey players from around the island, will be held March 25 to 27 at Kao'ma'aiku Neighborhood Park in Mililani.

Divisions are 12 years and up, 14 and up, and 18 and up.

So far, eight Mainland teams have signed up to participate in the event co-hosted by Lanakila Hockey Club and the Pacific Cup.
