HAWAI'I BRIEFS
Car lands on roof of carport
Advertiser Staff
An elderly Makiki woman was shaken but unharmed yesterday after her car wound up on the roof of her neighbor's carport, police said.
Police said the woman was backing down her driveway at 2014 Ualaka'a St. when she apparently hit the gas pedal instead of the brake.
The car shot back, hopped over a short retaining wall and then landed on the roof of the carport on the adjoining property. Police called a tow truck in hopes the car could be removed without causing the carport to collapse.
A 41-year-old Kalihi man was arrested Thursday on suspicion of attacking a 40-year-old neighbor with an electric drill.
Police said the two men had been arguing when the older man picked up the drill and hit the younger man in the face and head.
Police said the victim was cut on the scalp and above his left eye.
Police arrested the older man on suspicion of second-degree assault.
