ISLAND LIFE SHORTS
Steer clear of cosmetics testers

Advertiser Staff and News Services

When shopping for cosmetics, are you picking up more than a new spring shade? Prevention magazine warns of the risks of trying on makeup in department and drug stores. Herpes and pinkeye are two diseases, among others, that can be carried on makeup testers. The magazine offers these tips on how to avoid contamination:
  • Avoid testing on lips and eyes; use the back of your hand.
  • Wash your hands with soap and water or use a hand sanitizer before and after testing.
  • Test only products that come from a shaker or a squeeze pump dispenser, or those that are single-use.

'Rings' sings with $36 million

Naomi Watts stars as a single mom trying to save herself and her son from a cursed girl in "The Ring Two."

Naomi Watts ran rings around the competition as her horror sequel "The Ring Two" took in $36 million to debut as the top weekend movie.

"Robots," the previous weekend's No. 1 movie, slipped to second place with $21.8 million, lifting its 10-day total to $66.9 million, according to studio estimates Sunday. Disney's family hit "The Pacifier" held up well in third place with $12.5 million, pushing its three-week total to $72.3 million.

But with those two child-friendly flicks remaining strong draws, Disney's new family movie "Ice Princess" had a tough time finding a toehold. "Ice Princess," starring Michelle Trachtenberg as a science geek who abandons the physics classroom to pursue a new dream as a figure skater, premiered at No. 4 with $7 million.

FINAL WORD

"Buffy"/"Angel" alum James Marsters | to TV Guide Online on what it would take to get him to reprise his Spike role for a TV movie.

"As long as I could do it within, say, the next four or five years; past that, I'm too old. Spike's a vampire, man, and I've got high standards — you have to believe that the guy has not aged since we met him."
