Police said they arrested the driver of a sport utility vehicle who fled the scene of a traffic accident yesterday on Kalaniana'ole Highway between Hawai'i Kai Golf Course and Kealahou Street.

At 2 a.m. yesterday, the driver of a white Blazer was heading west on Kalaniana'ole when he hit the rear of two motorcycles that were stopped on the shoulder of the road, police said. Both motorcycle drivers and one passenger were thrown from their bikes, police said.

After pausing, the driver of the Blazer and his passenger drove off, police said.

The driver of the first bike suffered serious injuries and was taken to Castle Hospital by friends, police said. The driver of the second bike and his passenger were both injured, the driver seriously and the passenger critically, and were taken to The Queen's Medical Center.

The passenger's status has since been upgraded to serious, police said.

Police said they found the Blazer at Sandy Beach Park and arrested the driver, who is from Waimanalo, on suspicion of drunken driving and failing to render aid. A check also revealed that the bike ridden by the single rider was stolen, police said.
