ISLAND LIFE SHORTS
Mixed plate from 'Maui'

Advertiser Staff

"We went for a Brothers Caz meets Earth Wind & Fire feel here," write Barry Flanagan and Nathan Aweau, describing the track "Haleakala" on the liner notes of Hapa's new "Maui" CD.

There are 11 other tracks on "Maui," out in record stores today.

The disc — Flanagan and Aweau's first together as Hapa — showcases a mix of influences and styles (Hawaiian, Polynesian, slack-key, blues, jazz, slam poetry).

The disc's enclosure features multi-panel artwork by Native Hawaiian painter Solomon Enos, complete lyrics and detailed liner notes for each track.

VON DUTCH FOR DOGGIES

Here's a fashion flash for our friends of the canine variety.

The hip clothing line Von Dutch is now available for Honolulu's pampered pooches. Yes, the fashions made famous by Britney Spears and Paris Hilton come in tank tops, T-shirts and jackets for small and medium-sized dogs.

They're exclusive to Hawai'i Doggie Bakery in Ward Warehouse, where, very soon, women's matching tank tops will be sold so gals and their pooches can coordinate.

FINAL WORD

"Desperate Housewives" gardener/boy toy Jesse Metcalfe on which cast member he could go for in real life, to TV Guide Online:

"It's got to be Eva (Longoria). But Marcia Cross is a very close second. She's got perfect porcelain skin. She's a very beautiful, regal woman. I find her very attractive."
