Wie falls back in LPGA major

Advertiser Staff

Two double bogeys today dropped Honolulu's Michelle Wie out of the top 10 in the Kraft Nabisco Championship, the LPGA's first major.

Wie shot a 2-over-par 74 at the Mission Hills Country Club, Dinah Shore Course in Rancho Mirage, Calif.

The Punahou School sophomore is at even-par 144 after two days of the four-day tournament and is currently tied for 14th place with many golfers still on the course.

She is five shots behind clubhouse leader Annika Sorenstam, who finished today's second round with a 69 for a 139 total.

Wie, 15, had four birdies, two bogeys and two double bogeys, but it was the double bogey on the 16th — when she hit her drive out of bounds — that doomed her round.

Wie started off well, birdieing holes No. 2 and 3.

She bogeyed No. 4, double-bogeyed No. 7 and birdied No. 9. She also bogeyed No. 14, birdied No. 15.

Wie finished fourth in this event last year and ninth the year before.
