*WAC game "We're going to get out of this," UH coach Mike Trapasso said of the team's slump. "We're just in a funk right now. We just have to keep working harder and come out of it."
The Rainbows will send Steven Wright (3-2, 2.45 ERA) to the mound today. He won the only game against Louisiana Tech last week, giving up six runs in eight innings. Stephen Bryant (4-0, 1.90), a two-time WAC Pitcher of the Week, will start tomorrow. Sunday's starter will be either Justin Costi (1-2. 2.37) or Ricky Bauer (1-2, 5.97).
Hawai'i is expected to have Rocky Russo back in the lineup; he sat out the Pacific game because of a tweaked hamstring. Trapasso had wanted to use Russo at designated hitter, but he wanted to play Esteban Lopez at catcher while keeping Erik Ammon's bat in the lineup. Ammon, a catcher, is batting .316 with a .480 on-base percentage. He has been batting second in the order.
Fresno State, which took 3 of 4 from Iona last weekend, will start Matt Garza (1-3, 3.86) today, Eddie Romero (3-2, 3.72) tomorrow and Doug Fister (3-2, 3.31) Sunday. Garza was a preseason all-WAC selection. Romero is the only left-hander among the three.
On offense, the Bulldogs return all-WAC infielder Christian Vitters (.333, 4 HRs, 25 RBIs) and preseason all-WAC outfielder Nick Moresi (.365, 6 HRs, 28 RBIs).
The Rainbows return Monday. Their next home WAC series is April 1 to 3 against San Jose State, which leads the league at 3-0 after sweeping Rice last weekend.
