Honolulu gas hits record high

The average price for regular gasoline in Honolulu rose eight-tenths of a cent to a record $2.348 a gallon, according to a survey released yesterday by AAA travel club.
Statewide, the average price for regular was $2.440, while in Wailuku, Maui, the price was $2.669 a gallon. Both prices were less than a penny below records hit earlier this month.
In Hilo, the average for regular was $2.484 a gallon, which was nearly 4 cents below a November record.
Starting Friday, Verizon Hawaii customers no longer will be able to pay their phone bills at the company's Web site, www.verizon.com. The change is related to the pending sale of Verizon Hawaii to The Carlyle Group.
