Tomorrow is Easter, so today we dye the eggs. Lots and lots of eggs.

Gregory Yamamoto • The Honolulu Advertiser
And how do you display those colorful eggs? Here's an easy craft project for kids and adults alike that's similar to those egg holders found in dyeing kits: Advertiser graphic artist Martha P. Hernandez has drawn up a Hawai'i-inspired pair of bunnies to get you started.

What you need

• Scissors (parental guidance needed for the very young)

• Tape or glue

• Those cardboard tubes from toilet paper or paper-towel rolls (or heavy construction paper will do)

• Coloring pencils or crayonsBut don't limit yourself to this pattern. How about creating your own design, with a big egg as the main illustration? Or a chick, a dog or cat, or even a gecko? Or a coconut tree?

How to do it

Color in the patterns (downloads as a pdf file — using Adobe Acrobat), then cut them out.

Cut a 1-inch ring from the cardboard tube or construction paper. Wrap the colored pattern around the ring; tape or glue to hold. This strengthens the back of the holder. Place egg inside the ring.
