UH-Hilo softball sweeps Chaminade

Britni Rodriguez pitched three-hit ball over 5· innings with 11 strikeouts as Hawai'i-Hilo beat Chaminade, 6-2, to sweep a Pacific West Conference doubleheader yesterday at UHH Field.
Leo Sing Chow pitched the final 1° innings and Lisa Jackson batted 2 for 4 with a homer, two runs scored and two RBIs.
In the first game, Sarah Steel pitched a five-inning two-hitter with seven strikeouts in Hilo's 11-1 victory.
Jackson went 3 for 3 with a double, homer, two runs scored and four RBIs for the Vulcans.
Hilo improved to 20-2 and 9-1, while Chaminade fell to 8-21, 2-6.
The University of Hawai'i Rainbow Wahine softball team was swept at yesterday's Stanford Invitational, losing 1-0 to Northwestern and 4-2 to UNLV at Stanford, Calif.
Northwestern's Coutnay Foster pitched a two-hitter with 14 strikeouts.
The Wildcats scored the game's only run in the top of the first, when Jamie Dotson doubled home Sheila McCorkle
In the afternoon game, UNLV's Valerie Keeney singled in Morgan Bostwick to break a 2-2 tie in the sixth inning.
Hawai'i's Tyleen Tausaga batted 2 for 3 with a double.
The Pacific West Conference doubleheader scheduled for yesterday between Hawai'i Pacific and Montana State-Billings at HPU Windward Field was postponed by rain.
The teams will makeup the games today at 10 a.m. and noon at Kailua High School.
Rainbows prevail, 8-7
Iefke Van Belkum skipped in a shot with 39 seconds remaining as No. 5 Hawai'i beat Long Beach State, 8-7, in a Mountain Pacific Sports Federation match yesterday at Duke Kahanamoku Aquatic Complex.
Monika Kruszona and Van Belkum scored three goals apiece for UH, which improved to 11-6 and 6-2. The 49ers dropped to 15-4, 7-1.
