Pasha's new ship makes port calls in Hilo, Kahului

Pasha Hawaii Transport Lines made its first delivery in the Islands today with its new vessle, the MV Jean Anne, making port calls in Hilo and Kahului.

The MV Jean Anne, is scheduled to arrive in Honolulu tomorrow at Piers 31-34. The company offers a roll-on/roll-off service for vehicles and other heavy cargo between the West Coast and Hawai'i, with arrivals every two weeks.

Pasha's emergence in Hawai'i has already prompted its major competitors to lower their automobile shipping rates. Matson Navigation Co. and Horizon Lines used to charge $996 and $994.41, respectively, to ship vehicles between Honolulu and the West Coast and charged more to ship to the Neighbor Islands. Both companies have since then matched Pasha's $899 standard vehicle transport service rate for shipments to and from Honolulu and the Neighbor Islands.

Matson has four arrivals a week and Horizon has two arrivals a week.

The MV Jean Anne's maiden voyage to Hawaii this week is transporting more than 2,200 Chrysler Group, Honda, Mazda, Lotus and Porche vehicles from San Diego, as well as trucks, buses, boats, trailers and tractors — the largest single shipment of vehicles from the Mainland to Hawai'i, Pasha officials said. The ship can hold more than 3,000 mid-sized automobiles.

"We are very pleased with the strong showing of support for our first voyage, which successfully departed last Tuesday after a fitting christening and inaugural voyage celebration at our marine terminal in San Diego," said George W. Pasha IV, president of Pasha Hawaii Transport Lines.

"We are very appreciative to all who joined us and witnessed first-hand the advantages of shipping autos and other rolling stock through a dedicated roll-on/roll-off terminal, and via the first U.S.-built pure car truck carrier. We are looking forward to introducing our service to the community in Hawaii during our upcoming welcome celebrations in Hawaii this week."

Pasha Hawaii Transport Lines is a joint venture between Corte Madera, Calif.-based global transportation and logistics provider The Pasha Group and Stamford, Conn.-based shipowner and operator Strong Vessels Operators LLC.
